Chisinau,21 February /MOLDPRES/ - Over 100 tourist guides from Moldova today assembled at the National Art Museum of Moldova on the their professional day. The guides referred to the good practices of guidance and ethnography, history and art.

Attending the event, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said that the tourist guides were ambassadors of the country’s cultural and tourist heritage, as they accompany tourists in exploring the destination, creating memorable experiences.

”Our culture must be told to people. Through culture, we are unique, through culture, we show ourselves to the world and guides make possible this relation, through the talent and passion with which they do this. The guides have the task to discover and impress. You bring to people the well-made, well-told tale. People need tales. The success of tourism depends on guides, on how we arouse the wish to come and then come again in traveller’s soul, which is an important indicator: for one to want to return where he/she felt well. The development of tourism is a chance for Moldova and we rely on the ability and passion of guides to make tourists discover the tales of our small country, but with a great heart!,’’ Minister Sergiu Prodan said.

Also today, the Culture Ministry awarded prizes to 21 tourist guides, who had recorded outstanding performances and who enjoy authority in the tourism industry of Moldova.

Marked for the first time ever on 21 February 1990, at an initiative by the World Federation of the Tourist Guides Associations, the International Tourist Guide Day is annually marked with guided visits and master-classes in the guiding art, provided by authorized guides from all over the world.
