Unites States announces additional emergency assistance worth 300 million dollars for Moldova

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu and Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon announce that the USA plans to provide Moldova, through the U.S. Agency for International development (USAID), additional assistance worth 300 million dollars to overcome the energy crisis. USAID Administrator Samantha Power informed about the United States’ intention to assist Moldova in Washington on 24 February, the presidential press service has reported.
The financing will include a directly budgetary support of 80 million dollars, through which the quite high prices for electric energy of this winter will be compensated. Also, 135 million dollars will be used for backing projects on electric energy’s generation, for Moldova to diversify the sources of getting electricity. Another 85 million will be provided to Moldova to enhance the capacity of supply with energy from alternative sources and get energy independence from Russia.
The head of state expressed appreciation for this decision, which comes in a quite difficult moment for Moldova. ‘’Even if they do not come to the country’s budget immediately, these funds represent a sign of support and encouraging for us,’’ President Maia Sandu stressed.
At the same time, the head of state said that these resources would allow Moldova carry out projects due to lead to the consolidation of the country’s energy independence. ‘’We thank you very much; we thank the American nation for this substantial assistance. Thank you!’’ Maia Sandu added.
