Chisinau, March 1. /MOLDPRES/- The position of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova /AȘM/ with reference to the Romanian language remained firm and univocal: we support the PAS deputies' initiative to recognize the scientific truth, a press release of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova reads.

The Academy of Sciences of Moldova supports the initiative of PAS deputies from the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to replace the phrase "Moldovan language" with "Romanian language" in the text of the laws of the Republic of Moldova and in the Constitution, thus recognizing the scientific truth.

"Bringing back to legislative normality the correct name of our language would put an end to the endless useless discussions that are going on around this issue, all the speculations that have been made for several decades, it would enhance the image of our country in the whole world and ensure its process of European integration . Through the Decisions from 1994 and 1996 of the Presidium and the General Assembly of AȘM, in the national and international scientific conferences, in the interviews that the members of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and its management gave on different occasions, our institution has repeatedly pronounced for the restoration of this scientific truth about the Romanian language", the press release states.

Thus, the AȘM position on the Romanian language remains irrevocable.

The deputies of the Action and Solidarity Party have registered in the Legislature a draft law for the implementation of the considerations of some decisions of the Constitutional Court. The document stipulates that in the text of the laws of the Republic of Moldova, including the Constitution, the words "Moldovan language", in any grammatical form, should be replaced with "Romanian language". According to the document, the words "state language", "official language" and "mother tongue", in any grammatical form, if the state language of the Republic of Moldova is considered, are replaced by the words "Romanian language".

Previously, the Constitutional Court established that the official language of the Republic of Moldova is Romanian, as indicated in the Declaration of Independence.
