State could grant subsidies to stimulate organic agriculture

Chisinau, March 1. /MOLDPRES/- The state could grant subsidies to stimulate the development of organic agriculture. A draft law on the matter was examined today by members of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Food Industry.

The draft on organic production and labeling of organic products stipulates that to stimulate the promotion and development of organic agriculture, subsidies will be granted from the National Fund for the Development of Agriculture and the Rural Environment, the size and manner of granting them to be determined by the Government.

The document also contains provisions aimed at ensuring the sustainable development of organic production, fair competition and the proper functioning of the internal market of organic products. It also sees the products and substances allowed for use in organic production, the labeling and certification of organic products, their import and export.

At the same time, according to the document, an automated information system regarding organic production will operate for the purpose of recording and exchanging data related to the activity in the agri-food production.

The legislative initiative was set up by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
