Moldovan PM thanks Romania for prompt, unconditional support provided to Moldova

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean, on his first visit abroad, discussed with his Romanian counterpart Nicolae Ciuca infrastructure projects, boosting of the commercial exchanges, digitalization and the strengthening of Moldova’s energy security at the Victoria Palace today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.     

The development of the economic relations and the opening of new bridges of connection between entrepreneurs from the two countries represented one of the subjects tackled by the two officials. Romania is the principal sales market for the Moldovan products and the government is set to attract as many as possible Romanian investments into Moldova.   

„In the relation with Bucharest, we want to deepen the strategic partnership, the quick advancement in the process of accession to the European Union, development of the special privileged relations, implementation of the roadmap as to the priority sectors of cooperation and the carrying out of as many infrastructure projects as possible,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.   

The prime minister noted that the Moldovan government was resolute to transform the country’s institutions and economy, in order to make them strong, resilient and prepared to decisively contribute to Moldova’s accession to the European Union. ‘’We work to edify and support a functional economy, to strengthen the security and defence sector and to capacitate the state’s institutions,’’ Dorin Recean said.   

The Moldovan prime minister thanked the government of Romania for the support provided to purchase electric energy and natural gas. ‘’Romania has been with Moldova whenever needed and we are grateful for the prompt and unconditional assistance provided to our country,’’ Dorin Recean stressed.  

In the context, the Moldovan premier emphasized the projects on energy interconnection, possibility to develop the wholesale electricity market from Moldova according to the model of the energy operator from Romania (OPCOM). The sides also approached the option of concluding long-term contracts both for the procurement of electric energy and for natural gas with companies from Romania’s energy sector.   

Among the joint infrastructure projects, the officials specified the reconstruction of three road bridges across the Prut river, from Sculeni-Sculeni, Cahul-Oancea and Leuseni-Albita, as well as the construction of the Ungheni-Ungheni bridge, which will connect Moldova to the European road transport network. At the same time, the sides discussed the agreement on technical and financial assistance worth 100 million euros, which provides for financial support in 13 activity sectors, among which the ones of energy, infrastructure and transport, education, environmental protection and other priority fields.       

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca reconfirmed Romania’s support on all dimensions of the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union and wished success to the Moldovan cabinet members in the implementation of the ambitious agenda of reforms.
