Loan worth 100 million dollars on behalf of Japan for Moldova to be disbursed till late next June

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - A loan worth 100 million dollars, provided by the government of Japan to Moldova, is meant for backing the state budget and will be disbursed in a single installment till the end of June 2023. The Finance Ministry made statements to this effect today.  

Thus, till late next May, decision-makers will carry out the needed procedures for the negotiation, signing and ratification of the loan between the governments of Moldova and Japan and the money is to be disbursed till the end of next June.     

According to the Finance Ministry, the loan will be provided for a repayment period of 40 years, including a grace period of ten years, at a variable interest rate TORF + 1.3 percentage points (TORF is a floating interest rate, used on the Japanese financial market and on 28 February 2023 it stood at 0.026 per cent, with insignificant variations during the last year).    

The financing will be made within the Economic Development and Reestablishment Programme, the goal of which is to back the reforms and policies of Moldova’s government through attenuating the impact of the war in Ukraine on the refugees and households and through ensuring the resilience and enhancing the competitiveness of the country.   

Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida informed about the concessional loan at the conference of the G7 leaders, held on 24 February, this year.
