Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu came up with a message for the veterans and families of those who lost their beloved people during the Transnistria War of 1992, on the Memory and Gratitude Day, when the heroes who died at the armed conflict at Dniester are commemorated, the presidential press service has reported.

„On the Memory and Gratitude Day, we honour those who fought for the defence of our country’s independence. Those who sacrificed their youth, health and life to defend the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova in an unjust and unequal war with the Russian army and the troops of mercenaries,’’ the head of state said.

President Maia Sandu stressed that we do not want the war to be repeated in our home; therefore, it is necessary that we know the history, remember the lessons and preserve the capacity to judge clearly” ‘’Our freedom is precious – it deserves and must be defended. The human life is protected only in freedom,’’ the head of state also said.

Also, the Moldovan president believes that ‘’the people on the two banks of Dniester have the same aspirations and can live in harmony. We must work together, in order to edify, in Moldova, a society based on freedom and mutual respect. A society where different people live freely and peacefully, just as they want.’’
