Moldovan PM discusses with International Monetary Fund's mission

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - The present stage of implementation of the programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the macro-economic developments have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the IMF team led by Ruben Atoyan. During two weeks, the experts will carry out the third assessment of the programme backed through the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and Extended Fund Facility (EFF), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The PM appreciated the support provided to Moldova by IMF, noting that, in the context of the regional situation, this was vital for the economic rehabilitation, as well as the achievement of the present cabinet’s goals. According to Dorin Recean, among the basic priorities, there are the re-launch of the economy, improvement of the investment climate, backing the small- and medium-sized enterprises and working out of instruments due to better target citizens’ needs. 

For his part, Ruben Atoyan stressed that the governance’s priorities were oriented to the objectives of the IMF programme, which are aimed at implementing the governance and institutional reforms. At the same time, the actions concerning the budgetary and fiscal policy, anticorruption and rule of law state, as well as supervision of the financial sector will continue.  

In particular, the sides referred to measures needed to attenuate the shocks triggered by the energy crisis and highlighted the importance of strengthening the institutional capacities for achieving the goals of the programme and yield concrete results. The Moldovan authorities’ programme, backed by IMF, has duration of 40 months and was approved on 21 December 2021.
