Chisinau, March 7. /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister for reintegration Oleg Serebrian together with the head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative to Moldova Andrea Kuzyova paid a visit yesterday to Cocieri and Molovata Noua, Dubăsari district, the Reintegration Policy Office has reported.

The UNDP representatives presented the feasibility study "Bacul Molovata", which represents a first stage in modernizing the infrastructure of the navigation system in the perimeter of the Cocieri plateau, where almost 10 thousand citizens live (Molovata Nouă, Cocieri and Corjova).

The importance of this project comes in the context of the need to facilitate the connection between the two banks of the Dniester, the floating bridge being the only way of unhindered traffic in the context of the presence on the road of the illegal infrastructure of the Tiraspol checkpoints.

"We understand very well the importance of the given project. There are about 10,000 inhabitants on the Cocieri plateau who depend on this ferry. A good part of the traffic is also from the districts not controlled by the constitutional authorities. This is also an important factor that must be taken into account, but for the inhabitants of the towns on the Cocieri plateau the floating bridge is vital. The cost of a bridge over the Dniester in this area would amount to several hundred million euros, implicitly a floating bridge is the most suitable solution for the moment", said Oleg Serebrian.

Through the EU Confidence Building Measures Program implemented by UNDP in the Republic of Moldova, the feasibility study including recommendations for the modernization of the equipment and facilities of "Bacul Molovata" with floating units adaptable to the local context was set up, as well as formulated technical solutions to their implementation. At this stage, the feasibility study established the opportunities for the modernization of the coastal infrastructure and the siting/location of the maintenance infrastructure. The project is a government priority and is in the sights of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.

Also, Serebrian visited the Museum of History and Ethnography in Molovata Noua, which in 2022 benefited from financial support through the program of activities for the reintegration of the country.
