Chisinau, March 7. /MOLDPRES/- The government approved today, at the initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization, the general normative framework for ensuring a common high level of cyber security of networks and information systems, used in the provision of critical infrastructure services in the Republic of Moldova, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Strengthening the level of security is necessary to deal with the growing hybrid threats and cyber risks. The document specifies the competence of authorities and public institutions in matters of cyber security. The crisis management procedure in this field is determined and the requirements, measures and mechanisms for securing networks and IT systems are formulated - essential for the functioning of society, as well as for a better management of cyber incidents.

"The digital transformation of the economy and society has come with a set of opportunities, but also with many challenges, one of which is cyber security. With the development of digital technologies, cyber attacks are becoming more and more costly, especially for the country's key entities. Thus, cyber security becomes a major priority", said Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.

Additionally, the proper functioning of cooperation mechanisms at the national and international level in the cyber security is created and ensured. Moreover, the implementation of the legislative initiative will ensure an increase in the level of cyber resilience, thus avoiding cyber incidents, material and reputation damage.

The regulation of the issue of cyber security through a national law is one of the recommended options, from the point of view of good European practices, in the context of the Republic of Moldova obtaining the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union.
