Chisinau, 8 March /MOLDPRES/ - The International Women’s Day today is marked in Moldova, along with the other states.

Ahead of the International Women’s Day, the European Commission and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy made the following statement: ‘’On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, we think about the resilience and force of the women, about their will to fight against injustice, about their devotion to protect the others, about their tireless efforts in the favour of the change. Not only today, but every day, we are with all women, in order to give an as strong as possible impetus in the favour of their rights all over the world. The ever greater oppression against them at the world level and the attacks against the human rights of women and girls are alarming…’’

The subject of the International Women’s Day from 2023 is ‘’DigitALL: Innovate Technology for Gender Equality. The digital gender difference prevents women from fully taking advantage of the benefits of the digital transition. Through the EU’s Digital Strategy and sustainable growth, EU aims to ensure the equal access of women to the non-exploited potential of the digital technologies. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen declared the 2023 year as European Year of Skills. The investments in education and in the formation of skills for women and girls play a fundamental role in the strengthening of women’s position and in the removing of the difference of remuneration between women and men.

The International Women’s day (called Women’s Day) is annually marked on 8 March, in order to highlight both the social, political and economic conditions of women and the discrimination and violence which are still present in more regions of the world. The International Women’s Day was adopted through a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in 1977.

On 8 March, the International Women’s Day is marked in 60 states and is declared day-off under the law in several countries. As usual, presents, flowers and other gifts are offered to women and girls on 8 March.
