Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today went to the Cruzesti settlement, Chisinau municipality, where she planted trees of different species, the presidential press service has reported.
„I participated today, along with the Peace Corps team in Moldova, with the organizations, The Friends of Moldova, Million Trees Moldova, and more residents of the Cruzesti and Budesti villages, in the planting of 1,576 trees nearby the Cruzesti commune – by one tree for each Peace Corps volunteer who worked in Moldova, just as the Peace Corps team was set to mark the 30th anniversary of its work in our country,’’ the head of state said.
President Maia Sandu thanked the organizers for this initiative, as well as for their service and support to help Moldova in these three decades of activity.
„I encourage all citizens to join our efforts of afforestation, by planting trees and protecting woods. The forests presently cover only 11 per cent of the area, against the average of 40 per cent in the European Union. By increasing the afforested areas, we will enjoy a sound environment for living and will be able to easier cope with the climate changes,’’ the head of state noted.
