Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s law-enforcement bodies have managed to undertake actions, in order to prevent intentions of destabilizing and the disorder planned at events in the Moldovan capital, including for 12 March. The head of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Viorel Cernautanu, made statements to this effect at a news briefing today.

According to the IGP head, the police, along with the prosecutor’s office established several guide marks in the operative measures, aimed at preventing the creation of chaos at protests, with the involvement of disabled people, in more cases without discernment, as well as of structures from outside the country or groups of sportspeople.

„The information on the involvement of groups from Russia was confirmed, including by our undercover agent, who came in touch with the person from Moscow, with the pseudonym ‘’Mayin Sandu,’’ sent to Chisinau to make the needed instructions. This is an individual with dual citizenship, both of Moldova and Russia, who has repeatedly changed his name. He came to Chisinau on 9 March to establish the further schedule. Following pursuit actions, implicitly video recordings, law-enforcers learned about the infiltration of ten groups, of 5-10 people each, with certain signs, in charge of the destabilization actions, with a remuneration of  about 10,000 dollars per head,’’ Viorel Cernautanu said.

The official noted that the actions of the police had identified evidence showing the communication of destructive groups with well-known persons from the opposition. ‘’If necessary, the latter were to organize legal, material assistance, lawyers, etc.’’ Cernautanu said.

The statements by the head of the General Police Inspectorate were confirmed by video sequences presented to journalists, which showed details from the operation of destructuring and combating of actions of destabilizing the protests from Chisinau. ‘’It is about a material of more than ten hours of recordings, which will be made public. As a result, 25 people were raised, of whom seven were detained and most of them already provide testimony and cooperate with the inquiry,’’ Viorel Cernautanu added.

More protest actions started in Chisinau back in the autumn of 2022. The problems invoked by protesters deal with social aspects, such as the poverty, prices’ increase, discontent with the governance, etc. Yet, the protests do not have a mass character, as more investigations showed that the protesters participated not out of conviction, but against payment, which compromises the idea of protest.
