Chisinau, March 16. /MOLDPRES/- The houses of culture in the Republic of Moldova will become independent, establish their own legal status and be able to attract external funding resources, depending on the needs and priorities of the community. The provisions are included in the new Regulation for the operation of cultural centers which was published today in the Official Journal.

According to the document, the director of the House of Culture will be selected through competition, for a four-year term. He will be responsible for the institution's activity, record book, schedule and annual activity report. Also, to ensure transparency and good management, the Regulation proposes the establishment of an Administrative Council of the House of Culture, which will be composed of representatives of the founder, the Culture Directorate of the municipality or district and a representative from civil society in the field relevant to this activity.

The changes derive also as a result of the salary increase for the directors of cultural institutions, so that the complexity of the position corresponds to the level of remuneration.

Over 1218 cultural centers are operating in Moldova, which are subordinated to the local public authorities. So far, the Culture Law did not contain any provision regarding the House of Culture.
