Soldiers from 12 countries, including Moldova to attend Sea Shield multinational exercise

Chisinau, March 16. /MOLDPRES/-  About 3,400 Romanian soldiers, as well as from 11 other states, including the Republic of Moldova, will participate in the multinational exercise Sea Shield 2023 on 20 March -2 April.

The event will be organized by the Romanian Naval Forces and is planned to take place in the south-east of Romania, on the sea, on the river, in the Danube Delta and in the coastal area. Soldiers from Albania, Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Greece, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Moldova, the United States of America and Turkey will participate in the exercise.

Over 30 military ships of the Romanian Naval Forces, two military ships of the Bulgarian Naval Forces, 14 aircraft from France, Romania, the USA and Turkey, 15 fast intervention boats and patrol vessels of the institutions of the national system defense, 57 military vehicles and other combat capabilities, such as mobile launchers, special operations force detachments and raiding and anti-explosive combat divers, CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) defense specialists and platoons of infantry and military paratroopers will execute the training sequences planned by the Romanian Naval Forces.

The multinational exercise "Sea Shield 2023" is the most complex training event, planned and conducted by the Romanian Naval Forces, through the Naval Component Command, in the current training year. Also, the exercise is included in the NATO consolidated multinational training programs. "Sea Shield" is a complex concept, intended for the training of Allied forces and was proposed by Romania at the NATO Summit in Warsaw in 2016, to strengthen security measures on the south-eastern European flank.
