Moldovan foreign affairs minister meets more European officials in Brussels

Chisinau, 24 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan diplomacy head, Nicu Popescu, has had meetings with more European officials, on the sidelines of his working visit to Brussels, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.  

The reforms’ agenda, the implementation of those nine steps from the European Commission’s Opinion and the recommendations of the Analytical Report were the basic subjects tackled at a meeting with Director-General of the EU’s Directorate-General Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Gert-Jan Koopman. Another important aspect of the discussion was the starting of negotiations on accession to EU as soon as possible.    

Also in Brussels, Deputy PM Nicu Popescu met Head of the Cabinet of the European Council’s president Frederic Bernard, as well as members of the cabinet of the European Commission’s president, Fernando Guimaraes and Martina Lodrant.    

The officials discussed the present situation in Moldova, measurers to counteract the hybrid attacks faced by Moldova, in the context of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine, detaching of a civil mission of the Common Security and Defence Policy to Moldova, as well as the progress made in the carrying out of the European Commission’s recommendations. In the end, the sides reviewed the preparations for the Summit of the European Political Community, due to be held in Chisinau on 1 June 2023.
