Moldova's Audiovisual Council imposes 447 sanctions against media services providers in 2022

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Audiovisual Council (CA) in 2022 imposed 447 sanctions against media services providers and distributors for the non-observance of the legislation which regulates the work in the audiovisual sector. The CA leadership today unveiled data to this effect at the parliament’s commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media.    

According to the report, 235 fines amounting to 2,340,000 de lei (about 17,000 euros) were imposed last year and 212 public warnings were issued. Ninety five sanctions were imposed for the infringement of the Article 13 from the Audiovisual Media Services Code of Moldova, which regard the ensuring of a correct informing.  

At the same time, during 2022, the Audiovisual Council members paid special attention to the way Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the security crisis in the region were publicized. CA found out that some TV stations had not ensured the correct informing, violating the principles of good faith, impartiality, balance of opinions and separation of facts from opinions. As a result, 55 sanctions worth 213,000 lei in all were imposed.

The Audiovisual Council also initiated, ex-officio, the control over the correctness with which the subject of refugees or the decision on banning the symbols which justify the Russian military aggression were covered. CA also initiated, ex-officio, a monitoring as to the linguistic level in the news and discussions programmes.
