Moldovan PM meets European Council president

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s European agenda, construction of a resilient state, with independent institutions, advanced economy and a prosperous society have been the main subjects discussed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean with European Council President Charles Michel, on a visit to Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

„We face a string of crises triggered by Russia’s war against Ukraine and the support of our European friends and partners is primordial, in order to succeed in better managing their economic and social consequences. We are firmly involved in the process of reforms’ implementation, in order to bring Europe home and for the accession to the European Union till 2030. Meanwhile, we continue ensuring the peace and security, to increase the economy and develop an efficient public service and close to the citizens,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said at the meeting.    

The prime minister also referred to the cabinet’s priorities, including the European agenda, the carrying out of the European Commission’s recommendations, justice reform, improvement of the business environment and fighting corruption.  

„We persist in doing this, not because this is how the European institutions ask us to do this, but because our citizens are Europeans and want to edify Europe at home. Certainly, we count on the support of the European partners, in order to strengthen the rule of law state and to modernize the agriculture, enhance the productivity and attract investments,’’ the PM stressed.  

European Council President Charles Michel emphasized the progress made by Moldova and the need to continue the reforms underway.  

„We appreciate the way Moldova advances on the European agenda and we will continue providing every necessary assistance, in order to as soon as possible see tangible achievements, for the benefit of the citizens from your country,’’ the European official stressed.  

Also, PM Dorin Recean and European Council President Charles Michel discussed the second Summit of the European Political Community, due to be held in Moldova on 1 June 2023.
