Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament has approved the extension of the emergency state in Moldova for a period of 60 days starting from 5 April. In the parliament’s plenum, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that the need to prolong the state of emergency was prompted by the persistent risks and threats concerning the national security, Moldova’s supply with electric energy, as well as the actions of sabotage in the justice sector, which foster the attempts of destabilization in the country and creates impediments to the process of the country’s accession to the European Union, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

‘’The extension of the emergency state is a necessary constitutional instrument, as we face, in continuation, elements of a hybrid war of Russia against Moldova, which is assisted, in one way or another, by the group for theft and war, which has a clear-cut task – to destabilize the situation and create chaos. Moldova, the state’s institutions will cope with these challenges and those who participate, organize and incite to such challenges, must know that they will be eventually punished,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said at the parliament’s rostrum.

The prime minister also said that the emergency state would give the government the leverages needed to ensure the peace, security and well-being of the citizens, without infringing the fundamental rights.

„The measures taken in the Commission for Emergency Situations regarded the management of the humanitarian and energy crisis, as well as of the hybrid threats, having, at the same time, in focus the improvement of the living conditions for our citizens. The government and the state’s institutions will continue ensuring the peace and calm in the society and to work for the country’s economic recovery,’’ PM Dorin Recean added. ‘’

The Commission for Emergency Situations on 28 March approved an instruction on the need to prolong the state of emergency and at a meeting on 29 March the cabinet approved a draft decision to this end.
