PM says Moldova firmly advances on EU accession way, despite challenges of Russia's war against Ukraine

Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today had a meeting with Council of Europe’s Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić at the government. The officials discussed the advancement of the reforms assumed by the authorities and the challenges existing in several sectors, including the justice one, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

„We are concerned about the security context in the region, attempts of destabilization of the domestic situation, the justice reform, as well as the efforts of strengthening our economy. Despite the challenges brought by Russia’s war against Ukraine, we firmly advance on the way of accession to the European Union and continue the actions of uprooting the corruption,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.     

For her part, the Council of Europe’s secretary general touched upon the importance of the strengthening of the rule of law state.  

„I am happy that you are oriented to reforming the justice, de-oligarchization and fight against corruption, towards the consolidation of the rule of law state and democracy. Our experts, our standards are at your disposal, in the context of our joint action plan, in order to guide these efforts and to strengthen the normative framework of Moldova,’’ Marija Pejčinović Burić said.       

In the end, Prime- Minister Dorin Recean stressed that the authorities were consistently promoting the observance of human rights, democratic values and the mass media freedom, in order to edify a fair society and a competitive and resistant economy, which is to give people safety. ‘’We are grateful for the support provided by the Council of Europe during time,’’ the PM added.
