European Commission suggests extension of suspension of taxes on imports from Moldova by one year

Chisinau, 2 May /MOLDPRES/ - The European Commission has proposed the extension by one year of the suspension of the taxes and quotas on import at the Moldovan exports to the European Union, known as Autonomous Trade Measures (ATM).  

The measures suggested regard seven products for which the exports from Moldova to EU are still not fully liberalized: plums, table grapes, apples, tomatoes, garlic, sweet cherries and grape juice. As for the other agricultural products, there are no limits of export to EU without customs duties.     

The action represents an important support of EU for Moldova’s economy and helps attenuate, in continuation, the difficult situation faced by the Moldovan producers and exporters, in the context of the crisis from the region. ‘’One more good news for our economy today. The European Commission proposes the liberalization of quotas for another year. One more firm step forwards Europe and a major opportunity for our entrepreneurs. We thank our friends and partners,’’ Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba said.      

The decision was taken following more discussions held by Moldova’s team with European officials, in order to reduce the impact of the war in Ukraine on the Moldovan economy.  

The European Commission’s proposal is to be considered and approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.
