Moldova moved up in world ranking of press freedom

Chisinau, May 3 /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova ranks 28th out of 180 countries in the world ranking of press freedom, rising 12 positions compared to last year, when our country ranked 40th. The data were presented today in the context of the World Press Freedom Day.

"We are better ranked than 13 EU countries. This is proof of the progress in press freedom and reducing oligarchic influence in the media in recent years. Today is also World Press Freedom Day. I want to congratulate the independent journalists from Moldova because they stand guard for democracy and freedom in our country", MP Radu Marian said.

The Republic of Moldova has got a score of 77.62 points out of a maximum of 100 points, compared to the score of 73.47 from the previous year.

The first place in the top is taken by Norway. Neighboring countries Romania and Ukraine ranked 53rd and 79th respectively. Russia ranked 164th.

The World Press Freedom Index is set annually by the international organization Reporters Without Borders. The aim is to compare the level of press freedom enjoyed by journalists and media institutions in 180 countries. In 2022, the Republic of Moldova ranked 40th, and in 2021 – the 89th.
