Three bridges over Prut River to be modernized, following close cooperation between governments of Chisinau and Bucharest

Chisinau, May 3 /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova will have access to the trans-European transport network, under increased safety conditions. The Government decided to approve at today's meeting following the proposal of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development the signing of the Moldovan-Romanian bilateral Agreements, which provide for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of cross-border bridges over the Prut River, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The modernization of the bridges will streamline traffic between the two states, facilitate trade on the domestic and international markets, as well as provide concrete benefits for increasing the connectivity of our country between the countries of the European Union and Eastern Europe.

Following today's decision, the agreement on road bridge over the Prut river, between Leuşeni (Republic of Moldova) - Albiţa (Romania); the agreement on road bridge over the Prut river, between Cahul (Moldova) - Oancea (Romania); the agreement on road bridge over the Prut river, between Sculeni (Moldova) - Sculeni (Romania) will be signed in the near future.

The repair works of the 3 cross-border bridges will be financed by the Romanian Government by late 2027 and are part of the European Moldova 2030 strategy.

"The signing of the agreements will allow the construction and modernization of border bridges, which will have a positive impact on regional development and will boost the economic growth of the country, and the nearby regions, by supporting the citizens' needs for mobility and facilitating trade on the internal and international markets", Minister Lilia Dabija said.
