Chisinau, May 4. /MOLDPRES/- Refugees from Ukraine have the opportunity to study the Romanian language in courses organized with the support of the EU initiative Mayors for Economic Growth, implemented by UNDP. The training takes place at "Alecu Russo" State University in Bălți and at State University in Comrat.

The training program lasts three months and lessons are held three times a week. The courses are adapted to the needs and knowledge of the participants, and the teaching is interactive, with the use of audio and video supports. Up to 20% of the participants are citizens of the Republic of Moldova, employed in public institutions.

At the "Alecu Russo" State University in Bălți, courses are held in person and online and are mostly attended by refugees from Ukraine, who study Romanian from scratch.

At Comrat, the training takes place online, with refugees settled in different regions of the country participating in the courses. Romanian classes are taught by teachers from the specialized department of the State University of Comrat.

By late 2023, about 80 refugees from Ukraine will benefit from Romanian language courses offered by "Alecu Russo" State University in Balti and the State University in Comrat.

"This initiative aims to contribute to the social and economic integration of people who had to settle in our country as a result of the war in Ukraine. We offer them the chance to learn Romanian and, as a result, to be able to engage more easily in work", says Valentin Croitoru, project coordinator at UNDP Moldova.

Mayors for Economic Growth initiative, the second stage (2021-2024), aims at inclusive economic growth and job creation by supporting local authorities in Eastern Partnership countries.
