Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today participated in the Media Policies Forum, the 2023 edition, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, journalists, media experts, members of the academic environment and international organizations, in order to analyze challenges and solutions meant to enhance the resilience of Moldova’s information space and exchange good practices in this sector.
In his speech, the PM referred to the last years’ challenges and the adjusting of the legislation in Moldova’s audiovisual sector. Prime Minister Recean touched upon the hybrid threats against Moldova as a result of the war and the major role of the independent media in combating the misinformation and propaganda.
„The current challenges, as well as the fact that presently anyone can generate information and stories oblige us to find a balance between the protection of the media space and ensuring the freedom of expression for journalists. We make efforts to revise and improve the legislation in the audiovisual sector. I am happy to see that Moldova went up in the press freedom ranking; yet, we still have to work as regards the transparency and access to information. I know well that, last year, the media community formulated a firm request to nominate an authority on behalf of the government in charge of the elaboration, consultation and carrying out of the public policies in the mass media field. We will identify an efficient solution till next autumn,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
The forum from this year is organized by Freedom House in Moldova and Mediacor, with the financial support of USAID Moldova, Embassy of Sweden in Chisinau, Embassy of the United Kingdom in Moldova and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.
