Chisinau, May 6. /MOLDPRES/- Residents of Cahul municipality and Roșu, Crihana Veche and Cotihana towns will benefit from quality water supply and sewage services. This will be possible thanks to a project financed by the German Government and the European Union, within the Europe Team initiative, implemented by the Cahul city hall and the Southern Regional Development Agency with the support of the German Development Bank KfW.

The construction works have already been launched and have a total value of over 46 million euros, money provided as a grant. The project aims at the construction of a new sewage treatment plant in Cahul, the modernization and expansion of the water supply and sewerage networks in the municipality and the village of Crihana Veche, and the connection of about 5,000 households.

European Union ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks was also present at the launch of the construction works. "Our joint efforts will improve residents' access to water and sanitation services and protect the environment by reducing water pollution and protecting the region's groundwater reserves," said Jānis Mažeiks.

"The project aims to build a modern sewage treatment plant, equipped with the best technologies available to ensure efficient and safe sewage treatment. This will become a regional level station because it will have the capacity to treat a significant amount of waste water", Cahul mayor Nicolae Dandiș said.

The total budget of the project is 46.5 million euros – support provided as a grant by the Government of Germany (33.5 million euros) and the European Union (13.9 million euros), within the Europe Team initiative, being implemented by Cahul city hall and the South Regional Development Agency with the support of the German Development Bank KfW.
