Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - Agreements between Moldova and Romania on the modernization of three bridges across the Prut river, from north to south: Sculeni-Sculeni Bridge, Leuseni-Albita Bridge and Cahul Oancea Bridge, were signed in Chisinau today.

The documents were signed by Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Lilia Dabija and the state secretary at the Transports Ministry of Romania, Ionel Scriosteanu, in the presence of European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

„The agreements on interconnections on bridges were signed. It is about three bridges from north to south. Moldova, along with Romania applied for European funds for these infrastructures. From now on, Moldova will be able to apply also for funds for the infrastructure from inside the country. It is important for us to edify Europe at home, to build the infrastructure like in Europe, so that the citizens of our Moldova feel Europe at home and the citizens of the European Union feel as at home here, in Moldova,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.

The signing of the agreement was approved by the Moldovan government last week. The works of repair of those three cross-border bridges will be financed by Romania’s government till late 2027 and are part of the national development strategy, European Moldova 2030. The modernization of bridges will ease the traffic between the two states, will facilitate the trade on the domestic market and the international one, as well as will provide concrete benefits to enhance Moldova’s connectivity between the European Union’s countries and the eastern Europe.
