Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - The European Parliament today voted the macro-financial assistance worth 145 million euros for Moldova. European MP Siegfried Muresan has made statements to this effect.
According to Muresan, the decision was adopted with 561 votes for, 43 against and 20 abstentions.
The MEP said that ‘’it was essential for the new assistance to be approved without delay, so that the money reaches Moldova as soon as possible, in the second half of this year.’’
„Namely therefore, as rapporteur for the notification of the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets on this support, I recommended that the colleagues approve the decision of assistance in the form proposed by the European Commission, without submitting amendments. Thus, we managed to approve the financial assistance for budgets back on 17 April. This allowed the Committee on International Trade to quickly approve the support, on 27 April and today we were able to already give the final vote in the plenum of the European Parliament,’’ the European lawmaker said.
Siegfried Muresan also said that ‘’Moldova is a state candidate to the European Union and needs as much as possible support, in order to continue the European path, simultaneously with the management of all challenges it faces, such as the high inflation rate, increase in the price for energy, triggered by the gas blackmail on behalf of Russia, as well as the management of the security threats, caused by the situation in the region.’’
„Therefore, we must continue increasing the support for the Moldovan authorities, as only by helping Moldova remain stable and continuing the European integration, we can guarantee the safety at our borders and inside the European Union,’’ Muresan added.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in early 2023 suggested the supplementing of the macro-financial assistance for Moldova by 145 million euros.
