Strengthening Moldova's security in focus of European Parliament's delegation, on visit to Chisinau

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - The measures of enhancing the cooperation in the security and defence sector, the economic development, enhancing the resilience to the hybrid threats and the European integration way of Moldova have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and members of the European Parliament’s delegation, led by MEP Nathalie Loiseau, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The PM appreciated the European Parliament’s support in the process of Moldova’s European integration, the recent approval of the additional financial assistance worth 145 million euros, for Moldova. The prime minister noted that the cabinet was fully involved in the implementation of those nine recommendations of the European Commission, as well as in the re-launch of the economic sector, hit by Russia’s war against Ukraine.     

„Our priority is the development of the economic sector, with emphasis on the implementation of energy efficiency projects, developing the infrastructure and diversification of the sales market for the benefit of Moldova’s citizens. We also have a rich agenda for de-bureaucratizing the economy, digitalizing the processes in the public service; we continue the not at all easy reforms in the justice sector. All these actions are aimed at a European future and a sustainable transformation of Moldova,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.     

The officials also referred to the measures of consolidating the regional security, with an important step being the opening of the European Union Partnership Mission in Moldova, under the aegis of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). The sides also appreciated the work of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine, which monitors and ensures the traffic in safety at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border.     

The European Parliament members expressed gratitude for the efficient management of the refugees’ crisis and the authorities’ measures in ensuring the peace and stability in the region. The European MPs expressed openness in the implementation of the European agenda and in the process of fight against the threats to the security in the region. ‘’An enlarged Europe must be a more resilient Europe. This must be a collective success,’’ the delegation’s head, Nathalie Loiseau, said.  

The delegation was made up of European lawmakers: Nathalie Loiseau (Renew), Eugen Tomac (European People’s Party) Arnaud Danjean (European People’s Party), Assita Kanko (European Conservatives and Reformists), iola von Cramon-Taubadel (Greens Group) și Jean-Lin Lacapelle (Identity and Democracy Party).
