Chisinau, 23 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Customs Service has carried out, with the support of the Programme of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a workshop on the benefits of the status of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) and approved exporter, as well as the advantages of the E-AEO information system.

At the event, local economic agents were informed about the benefits and the opportunities of the AEO status, the legal framework, as well as the way of asking for and getting this status.

The deputy director of the Customs Service, Lidia Ababii, stressed that the institution was involved in a process of modernization and carrying out the reforms, in the context of the European integration process. ‘’The getting of the status of country candidate for accession to EU facilitated the processes which bring multiple benefits to economic agents. It is important that we contribute to the improvement of the quality of services provided to the business environment, which represents one of the basic pillars of development and of advancement of a state to the international standards. Thus, the process of digitalization and of submitting acts in electronic format will shorten the waiting time and will bring benefits to economic agents. We thank the economic agents who accepted the invitation and participate in this information session today. We also thank the development partners for every support provided,’’ Lidia Ababii said.

The deputy director of the USAID Moldova Institutional and Structural Reforms Activity (MISRA) Project, Radu Vrabie, said that such information sessions took place in more settlements of Moldova. ‘’Specialists of the Customs Service and USAID MISRA Programme provide the explanations needed and answer the questions put. The campaign’s goal is to inform the business environment about the AEO and approved exporter programmes, the way of requesting and getting the status, as well as the use of the e-AEO system, which allows the distance interaction with the Customs Service. Six information workshops are planned to be held within the campaign. The AEO programme is a partnership one, through which we are set to develop other useful instruments as well,’’ Radu Vrabie noted.

Within the AEO programme, the Customs Service certifies the economic agents which voluntarily meet the criteria regulated by the customs legislation and establish a close cooperation relation with them. The companies which meet these requirements get the AEO status and thus have the right to benefit from customs simplifications and facilities. In the context, the e-AEO information system is meant to digitalize the management of the AEO status and to simplify the interaction with the customs authority.
