Moldovan, Hungarian officials approach cooperation

Chisinau, May 25. /MOLDPRES/- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó paid a working visit to Chisinau. During a meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu and Péter Szijjártó discussed the current state of bilateral relations, prospects for deepening Moldovan-Hungarian cooperation, as well as the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the EU, the MAEIE press service has reported.

"We welcomed the announcement made by Minister Szijjártó about providing financial support of 300,000 euros, through the NATO Trust Fund - that will contribute to strengthening our defense capabilities, including stability and peace in our country," the Moldovan official said.

Together with his Hungarian counterpart, Popescu also spoke about Moldovan-Hungarian economic and commercial relations, during this period negotiations were taking place on the resumption of Wizz Air flights from and to Chisinau.

"We are looking for viable solutions so that the citizens of our country can benefit from a wider variety of destinations and lower fares. Together with the Foreign Minister of Hungary and other officials from both countries, we are working so that the flights of this company can resume as soon as possible", he said.

The signing of the new Action Plan for cultural cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Culture and Innovation of Hungary for 2023-2027 took place, a fact that will strengthen Moldovan-Hungarian cultural relations and contribute to the development an active cultural diplomacy.

"I also reported on the significant progress of our country in the implementation of the nine recommendations of the European Commission. Our goal as a country is to open accession negotiations by the end of this year, and in this regard we count on the full support of Hungary.

We also referred to the organization of the European Political Community Summit in our country on June 1 - a clear and strong sign that the Republic of Moldova is not alone", Popescu said.
