Moldovan deputy PM participates in Defence 24 Day international conference

Chisinau, 26 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration and the political representative on behalf of Chisinau in the process of negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict Oleg Serebrian on 24-26 May has paid a visit to Poland, where he participated in the international conference Defence 24 Day (24-25 May) – the biggest and the most important forum from the Central and Eastern Europe dedicated to issues of security and defence, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.    

In his capacity of speaker at the discussion, The impact of the war in Ukraine and of the Transnistrian conflict on Moldova’s security, the Moldovan official unveiled to a numerous audience aspects of the Transnistrian problem, the regional geopolitical situation and the dynamic of the process of negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement, in the context of the war in Ukraine. Special attention was paid to the formats of negotiations and the dynamic of the Chisinau-Tiraspol interaction. The deputy PM emphasized the importance of the conflict’s  peaceful settlement and of the reviving the process of negotiations, reaffirming his cabinet’s commitment to continue the dialogue in order to settle the Transnistrian problem.  Oleg Serebrian pointed out the special role of the European Union and of the foreign partners in the process of settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, including in identifying solutions as to the ammunition from the Cobasna depot.          

At the event, the deputy PM had meetings with Foreign Affairs Minister of Poland Zbignew Rau, with the plenipotentiary of the Polish PM for backing the reforms in Moldova, Adam Eberhardt, as well as with the president of the Administrative Board of Defence24, Piotr Małecki.  

Also, Oleg Serebrian had a meeting with Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Poland Arkadiusz Mularski. The discussions were focused on subjects regarding the Transnistrian conflict’s settlement, European integration, strengthening the security and resilience of Moldova and the support which Poland can provide to this end. The Moldovan deputy PM informed about the march of the process of negotiations, the efforts made by the authorities and strategic development partners to maintain the stability and security in the region, reiterating the need of the Transnistrian region’s demilitarization and democratization

 

The participation in the event represented an excellent opportunity to inform the public on the present challenges to the stability and security of Moldova and the perspectives of the process of negotiations with Tiraspol, to exchange opinions on subjects of defence and security, as well as to know the modern equipment and endowments produced in the Polish defence industry. Also, the event was a good occasion to discuss the role of the special units in maintaining the international and domestic security of the states from the region. At the forum, Oleg Serebrian gave an interview with the TV station of Defence 24 Day.         

The 2023 edition of the conference, attended by about 3,000 participants and 300 panelists, included five topic related blocks: discouraging and defence, resilience, modernization of the armed forces, defence industry, the Sofeast forces for special operations (elite intelligence services).
