Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ - 1 June is an important day for Moldova and for the friends and partners of the country. On 1 June, we will say with pride, Welcome, Europe, to our home! The entire Europe assembles in Bulboaca to discuss about security, energy and a more prosperous union. President Maia Sandu has made statements to this effect at a news conference held jointly with European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen.

The head of state noted that it was an honour for Moldova to host the summit, in which 50 presidents, prime ministers and high-ranking European Union’s officials participate.

„Moldova has many friends, who are with us and back us in the  aspiration which unites our citizens to edify a European Moldova at home. The presence of these leaders is a quite clear message that Moldova is not alone. Neither our neighbour Ukraine is alone, which for more than one year and three months has been facing Russia’s barbarian invasion with heroism. The fact that the second meeting of the European Political Community takes place nearby the border with Ukraine is the proof of an ever stronger unity on the European continent. The free countries united, in order to protect a nation’s right to life and freedom. Our citizens also united, in order to be with the Ukrainians and to clearly say that our nations want to live worthily, at home. And to decide their fate by themselves. The citizens of Moldova, no matter the ethnic affiliation, language or political vision, want a safe life in a peaceful and free state. They stated this resolutely at the European Moldova Assembly from 21 May 2023. Over 80,000 people, who assembled on the Great National Assembly Square and thousands of people from over 50 European cities, said in a single voice that Moldova’s place is in the European Union,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The Moldovan president noted that the Chisinau authorities daily made intense efforts to carry out the reforms and fulfill those nine conditions of the European Commission. She thanked the European partners for the budgetary support provided.

„We welcome the European Union’s decision, taken on 30 May, to sanction the people who threat the democracy and stability of Moldova. The restrictions imposed will prevent their attempts and the ones of other persons with similar intentions to destabilize the country and block our future. Our connection to the European Union is strengthened, there are ever more agreements and mechanisms to which Moldova accedes. We have become part of the Connecting Europe Facility, which will allow us increase the investments in the modernization of the roads, energy sector and the digital one, improve our infrastructure and increase the trade with the European Union countries. In several hours, the European Union Partnership Mission will also be launched in Chisinau, within the common security and defence policy. This will help us consolidated the security sector. Namely this means the partnership with the European Union. We help each other in difficult situations, celebrate together the achievements of each member and are ever closer to the dear people from our life. Moldova’s place is in the European Union. The oath of our generation is to bring Moldova to the European family and bring the European Union home,’’ the Moldovan president added.
