Moldovan president says EPC summit clear expression of European community's unity, strength, resoluteness to act together as one family

Chisinau, 1 June /MOLDPRES/ - This summit of the European Political Community is a clear expression of our unity, strength and resoluteness to act together as a single family. A family stays united, a family which works together, in order to tackle the common problems. A single European family in which the states from inside and outside the European Union act together, in order to discourage the aggression and consolidate the peace on the continent. President Maia Sandu has made statements to this effect at the opening of the plenary meeting of the EPC Summit.   

The head of state noted that, in the next several hours, the politicians present at the event would have a strategic discussion on ‘’how should we strengthen the security on our continent and to approach the consequences of Ukraine’s invasion by Russia.’’

„We will also look for ways to tackle the energy and the climate crises. We must everybody move towards a cleaner and safer pan-European energy system. We should everybody speed up the transition to the renewable energy, diversify our sources of supply with energy and better protect our critical infrastructure and the power networks. We everybody have a strong interest in improving the connectivity between our countries. The importance to find and commit to joint solutions becomes quite clear, immediately as we think about what is at stake, if we do not do this. What is at stake for Europe, for the international order based on rules, what is at stake for our citizens?,’’ Maia Sandu said.     

The Moldovan president noted that she cannot accept that the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity no longer matter. 

„We cannot accept our citizens to turn into refugees overnight, as another country decides to invade a neighbour. We cannot say to our people and the local businesses that we are not sure as to the supply with energy. We everybody have the capacity to model our own destinies. For Moldova, this means to be part of the free world, to have an active role in the European Political Community, to join the European Union and work together, in order to edify a stronger Europe. In the last year, we have proved an extraordinary power, resistance and solidarity. Yet, we can do much more together. EPC can become a key platform for the pan-European action. For Security. For Peace. For Europe,’’ the head of state added.
