PHOTO Heroes of SMURD Iasi crew died in tragic plane crash commemorated in Haragâș, Cantemir

Chisinau, June 2. /MOLDPRES/- The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) today commemorated the heroes of the SMURD Iași crew who died in Haragâș, Cantemir. The event took place at the Memorial dedicated to the eternalization of the SMURD crew in Haragâș, where the tragic plane crash occurred on June 2, 2016.

The commemorative ceremony began with a religious service. After a minute of silence, the officials gave speeches and talked about a true example of heroism, devotion and sacrifice of the defunct SMURD crew, who sacrificed their lives while carrying out the mission to save Moldovan citizens. At the same time, the guests of the ceremony mentioned the importance of cross-border aero-medical interventions, which daily contribute to saving human lives.

At the end of the ceremony, the official representatives of Romania and the Republic of Moldova laid flowers at the Memorial compound. The monument was built at the initiative of IGSU for eternal memory of the heroism of the SMURD Iași crew.

Seven years ago, the SMURD helicopter was heading to Cahul district to pick up a patient, but due to bad weather conditions it crashed in the forest.

According to IGSU, since 2014, since the launch of the SMURD cross-border project in the Republic of Moldova, 122 cross-border aero-medical missions have been carried out to transport and rescue the citizens of our country.
