MOLDPRES AT MEDIA FORUM : We cannot develop democratic society without strong, free and independent media

Sofia, June 5 /MOLDPRES/- We cannot develop a democratic society without a strong, free and independent media. President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev made the statement at the 18th world meeting of Bulgarian media, organized by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), in which MOLDPRES State News Agency also participated. The event was held on June 1-4, in Kazanlak, the city that is currently celebrating the 120th anniversary of the Rose Festival.

"Only free media can defend the truth and fair justice. The information environment is increasingly becoming a criterion for the freedom of society. Media freedom ends where the journalist, his editor or the media is dependent on economic, political, corporate or foreign interests. The media freedom must be the main task of the authorities", Radev said.

The official thanked BTA director-general Kiril Valchev for organizing the Media and Freedom Forum, "a global meeting of the Bulgarian media, which is important because the meeting has established itself as an extremely important forum, where the professional community joins in important discussions on topics and problems related to both the media and society, in search of solutions commensurate with reality". According to Radev, this meeting has a special task, as it is part of the strong connection between Bulgaria and communities abroad.

The first world meeting of Bulgarian media was organized in Sofia on 23-25 May 2005 at the initiative of the BTA.

MOLDPRES concluded a collaboration agreement with BTA this March. The document provides for the exchange of experience and the mutual dissemination of news and information products. BTA is a national news agency in Bulgaria set up in 1898. It is an independent institution aimed to provide current information to subscribers and citizens of Bulgaria. BTA offers a wide range of services, including: news from various fields and photographic materials. At the same time, the institution works in close cooperation with international agencies.
