Chisinau, June 5. /MOLDPRES/- Those who were elected must work for the interest of this state and not for the interest of criminal groups. The statement was made today by head of state Maia Sandu in the context of the elections in Gagauzia.

The official emphasized that in the Republic of Moldova, democracy and the choice of citizens are respected.

"The people of our country, in these three decades, have demonstrated how much they care about democracy. Our people have managed to protect and save democracy in the most difficult times. At the same time, democracy also means respect for the law, and everyone must respect the law, especially those who are in public office, those who have benefited from the vote of the citizens. This is my message. Those who were elected must work for the interest of this state and not for the interest of criminal groups," said Maia Sandu.

Evghenia Guţul, candidate of Shor party, won the position of governor of Gagauzia with 52.36% of the votes. Several accusations of violations, noted by the competent central authorities, are looming over the results of the elections in the Gagauz autonomy, which are still under examination.
