Chisinau, June 7. /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture Minister Vladimir Bolea and World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Inguna Dobraja signed yesterday a Loan Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) for the implementation of the Agriculture Governance, Growth and Resilience Investment (AGGRI) project. The financing program is worth 55 million dollars and will be implemented in our country until 2029.

Under the Agreement, the investments are directed to the development of low-efficient areas of agriculture, the creation of jobs and market opportunities, the introduction of sustainable agricultural practices and the promotion of environmentally friendly production.

"It is a very important financing program and long awaited by our farmers. The document integrates the areas and priority directions of intervention for the sustainable development of agriculture. We are talking about AIPA's strengthening processes and the agency's preparation to be able to access European funds. We are talking about ANSA, which must guarantee the harmlessness of food products. At the same time, through this program we aim to increase the potential of the livestock sector and increase the number of highly productive cows. It is obvious that, following climate changes, today in the Republic of Moldova we cannot talk about the development of agriculture without irrigation systems. Thus, we are taking the first step in restoring the irrigation systems, after which extensive processes of reorganization of the field will follow", Vladimir Bolea said.

Inguna Dobraja pointed out the successes of previous projects financed by the World Bank and implemented by the Consolidated Agrucultural Projects Management Unit (CAPMU). The new project strengthens the commitment and cooperation of the World Bank Group with the Republic of Moldova in the agricultural reforms.

Of the total amount, about 21 million US dollars are to be offered as grants to farmers, to boost initiatives to promote and develop the livestock and horticultural sector. Another 25 million dollars will be directed to the rehabilitation of primary and secondary irrigation infrastructure. At the same time, about 6.5 million are planned to strengthen the capacities of AIPA and ANSA. About 2.5 million dollars will be used for project management.
