Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Mihai Eminescu National Theatre (TNME) on the period 7 June – 6 July 2023 organizes a tour of memory with the play and document, The Files of Siberia. This is a play to commemorate the attempts of extermination of the Romanians living in the area between the Prut and Dniester rivers on the period of the Soviet occupation (1940, 1944-1991), through organized famine and systematic deportations.
The play, The Files of Siberia, staged by Petru Hadarca, is made according to memories by deportees Ecaterina Chele, Margareta Cemârtan-Spânu and of Ion Moraru, who was sentenced to 10 years of GULAG in 1950. According to TNME director Petru Hadarca, the idea to stage the play, The Files of Siberia, came after he had made several radio plays dedicated to deportations at the Radio Bucharest.
The tour takes place within a project backed by Moldova’s government, Culture Ministry, local public authorities and the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau.
