Moldovan parliament approves rectification of state budget law; PM says it is important to restart economy's engines

Chisinau, 9 June /MOLDPRES/ - As much as 1.4 billion lei has been additionally allocated to the state budget to simulate the growth of the national economy, for regional development and modernization of the national infrastructure. The draft on amendment of the state budget law for 2023, unveiled by Prime Minister Dorin Recean in parliament’s p-plenum today, was approved in the first reading by majority vote, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The document provides for the increase of the Road Fund by 736 million lei, for works of repair and maintenance of national public roads and 338 million lei was earmarked for backing the small- and medium-sized enterprises through programmes of the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development (ODA). Also, the national fund of regional and local development will be supplied by 320 million lei within the European Village project. Another 100 million lei will be directed to support farmers, through the national fund for the development of agriculture and rural environment.   

„It is important, beyond the crises which we manage, that we restart the economy’s engines and this is the goal of the current rectification and of the rectification due follow in next autumn. By the end of this year, we must switch from the phase of economic recession to the phase of economic growth, even if a modest one. For this, we must invest in roads, in backing the business environment, in the development of villages and towns and in agriculture,’’ PM Dorin Recean said at the parliament’s rostrum.    

At the same time, following the state’s budget’s rectification, financial resources will be allocated for implementing measures in the fields of culture, sport, education and healthcare. As much as 86.1 million lei will be directed for financing the personal assistance service, 50 million lei - for the capital repair of the intensive therapy units from the medical and sanitary institutions, 5 million lei – for the Drug store in your commune, programme. Another 10 million lei will be used for the renovation and endowment of the infrastructure in kindergartens and crèches and 22 million lei – for awarding prizes and scholarships to sportspeople who achieved performance at sports competitions.  

The rectification implies also an increase in salaries for some categories of public sector employees who work in the central public administration starting from 1 July 2023. A sum of 89.8 million lei was allocated on this purpose.
