Moldova to host European Weightlifting Championships for the first time ever

Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - Over 400 sportspeople from 38 countries and about 200 people of the technical staff will participate in the European Weightlifting Championships, due to be held in Chisinau on 1-10 July. Thus, Moldova will host a European Championship at a sports Olympic event for the first time ever. The country will be represented by about 40 weightlifters.
The competition will be meant for young sportspeople under-15 and under-17. The participants, boys and girls, will compete for the title of champion at different weight categories. The event will take place at the Chisinau Arena – the biggest cultural and sports complex of Moldova.
The European Weightlifting Federation took the decision to organize the championship in Moldova in the end of the last year. The European forum gave the right to host the tournament to the Moldovan competent federation.
The European Weightlifting Championships is organized by the Moldovan Weightlifting Federation, with the financial support of the Education and Research Ministry (MEC).
