Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) warns citizens to avoid the use of open fire, in order to destroy the vegetation, thicket and household waste.
According to the quoted source, given the conditions of wind and low humidity, fires spread quickly on large areas and pose danger to the forestry sector, farmlands, as well as to the dwellings’ sector. Moreover, the registration of high air temperatures, which are not specific for the cold period of the year, can favour the outbreak of fires following the hygienization and setting fire to the dry vegetation.
At the same time, adults are asked to supervise their children and not let them play with the fire and other fire sources. To prevent the wildfires, IGSU specialists urge citizens to be more responsible, by avoiding the setting fire to grounds, so that the fire does not destroy Moldova’s flora and fauna.
According to IGSU’s statistics data, during 2023, 4,780 interventions of firemen were registered to liquidate the wildfires, in the wake of which over 11,600 hectares of lands were compromised.
