Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today participated, along with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of Switzerland Viola Amherdde, in the Ukraine Peace Summit, held in Burgenstock (Switzerland). The discussions were focused on the reestablishment of peace in Europe, the head of state said.

„The peace does not mean capitulation before the aggressor, giving up defending your own citizens or the acceptance of the foreign occupation. The peace is when children are playing and are not bombarded or kidnapped; mothers and fathers are happy with their children, do not cry at their graves; the schools and hospitals are being built, are not destroyed.
The peace is when the borders are observed and each nation decides its own fate. The peace in Ukraine means peace in Moldova as well. The peace belongs to us everybody,’’ Maia Sandu said.

Leaders from 100 countries and international organizations participate in the Ukraine Peace Summit. Over 160 delegations are invited in all. Among them, there are the G7, G20 and BRICS countries. Kiev refuses the invitation of Russia to the summit in Switzerland, from which it hopes to convey a strong message of rejecting the infringement of the international legality which Moscow commits in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopes that the meeting ‘’will serve as platform to speak about how a just and lasting peace can be accomplished for Ukraine,’’ according to the principles of the international law.

This is the first peace summit for Ukraine.
