EU to invest €1.8 billion in Moldova's economy

Chisinau, Oct. 10 /MOLDPRES/- European Union will invest 1.8 billion euros in Moldova's economy over the next three years. The money will be invested in infrastructure, energy and business development. The objectives are part of Moldova's economic growth plan. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen made the statement at a joint press briefing with head of state Maia Sandu in Chisinau.
The European official emphasized that the investments will generate more jobs, economic growth, better public services, carrying out projects, support for Moldovan companies on the market, strengthening infrastructure, implementation of reforms, improvement of the business environment and preparation of the energy sector for the green transition.
"You have a very ambitious economic plan and the European Union will support you. We believe we can help you double the size of your economy over 10 years, which will mean more jobs and a better quality of life. We will invest €1.8 billion in Moldova's economy over the next three years. We have several projects in the pipeline, we will renovate schools, we will build hospitals, we will invest in connections with our neighbors, we will provide support for the construction of the energy network, which will connect you to the European grid," said Ursula von der Leyen.
Maia Sandu thanked for the help. The official noted that the support will contribute to the growth of a strong economy offering well-paid jobs.
"It is a consistent and symbolic aid called - economic growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova. It is not only an investment program, but also a symbol of the European Union's confidence in our potential for transformation and development. This growth plan will help us build a strong economy that will provide well-paid jobs at home, allowing us to develop our localities and our country. I am sure that together with you, we will achieve even more as we move forward on Moldova's path towards joining the European Union. It is our mission to make the necessary transformations to build the European Union here at home", said Maia Sandu.
Ursula von der Leyen is visiting Chisinau on Thursday. This is the European official's first visit to Moldova after her re-election in July 2024 as President of the European Commission for a five-year term.
