Commemorative exhibition by fine artist from Moldova opened at museum from Chisinau

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition by departed fine artist Serghei Ciocolov, on the occasion of his 130th birthday anniversary, was opened at the National Art Museum of Moldova on 24 February.   

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the institution’s director, Tudor Zbarnea, said the exhibition comprised 70 works, of which 57 pottery ones, two tapestry works and 11 graphic works.   

Serghei Ciocolov was born in a family of noble stock on 18 September 1892. In 1914, he graduated from two schools concomitantly: the High School of Arts and Crafts Stroganov and the Law Faculty of the Moscow Imperial University. In 1918, he moved to Bessarabia for good. After the World War II, Ciocolov founded along with his colleagues the Union of Painters from Moldova and his activity of artist switched from painting to pottery and tapestry. In 1952, the pottery of Ciocolov was presented at a republican exhibition for the first time ever and in 1955 he inaugurated the first personal exhibition at the age of 63 years. Serghei Ciocolov participated in international exhibitions, where he was quite appreciated for the technique and expressiveness.        

Serghei Ciocolov died in January 1977.

The exhibition will be opened till 10 April.
