Construction of bridge at Ungheni over Prut river to be launched on 26 April through special event

The launch of construction works for the road bridge at Ungheni over the Prut River will take place on April 26 and will be marked by a unique event that will bring together people from both banks of the Prut. Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea today urged citizens to participate in the event and become part of a historic moment, which will transform the flower bridge from 1990 into a real stone bridge.

The event will also include a cultural-artistic program.

"We dedicate this event to the people who in 1990 came to the banks of the Prut, and in 1990-1991 stood in the Great National Assembly Square, without fear and expressed their desire to be free people. On April 26, we see each other at Ungheni to start the construction of this bridge. It is a project from the heart", concluded Vladimir Bolea.

The bridge at Ungheni represents a strategic link between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, being an integral part of the Union Highway (A8), with a major role in interconnecting the two national road networks - Târgu Mureș – Iași – Ungheni Highway and the future Ungheni – Chișinău Highway, both estimated to be completed by 2030.

The bridge over the Prut River at Ungheni will have four driving lanes, two in each direction, and pedestrian sidewalks. The total length will be 261 meters, and the width will reach 13 meters in the first stage, to increase to 24.25 meters in the second stage. The project also includes the construction of a border crossing point, equipped with facilities for detailed control, parking for trucks and cars, as well as a connecting road of approximately 1 km.

The investment is entirely financed by European funds, through the Connecting Europe Facility, with the project's value exceeding 30 million euros.
