European Commission welcomes enhancement of capacity of export of electricity to Moldova, Ukraine
Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/ - The European Commission (EC) today welcomed the decision by the Transport System Operators (TSOs) from the Continental Europe to increase the capacity of export of electricity to Moldova and Ukraine, reads a press release of the EU’s government.
„Today’s announcement is a further sign of the strong support that the EU is offering Ukraine and Moldova, and the solidarity of the European TSO community. This move to increase our connections with Ukraine and Moldova was one of the three priorities outlined by President Von der Leyen in September to help Ukraine’s winter preparedness in the energy sector,’’ European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said.
The Transport System Operators from the Continental Europe today informed that they had agreed on increasing by 25 per cent the commercial capacity with Moldova and Ukraine for the 2024-2025 winter period.
According to the European Network of Transmission System Operators, (ENTSO-E), the decision was approved following the destruction of a significant number of power stations in Ukraine and of previsions of a big deficit of electricity for the winter season.
The results of the calculations made allowed increasing the limits of export of electric energy to 2,100 MW, by 400 MW more than at present.
The decision was welcomed by the Moldovan Energy Ministry, which said that ‘’this significant increase of the export capacity represents a new sign of solidarity and of strong support on behalf of the European community of TSOs for Moldova and Ukraine.
The new export limit will enter into force on 1 December 2024. Starting from March 2025, the TSOs will monthly re-evaluate the commercial capacity between EU, Moldova and Ukraine and will adapt it to the system’s needs and conditions.
Moldova and Ukraine finished the process of synchronization to the ENTSO-E network in the spring of the 2023 year.
