Moldova to use modern IT system to combat money laundering

Moldova will use the goAML IT system, in order to more effectively combat money laundering and financing of terrorism. This will allow authorities to detect financial crime cases more quickly and accurately.

The goAML system is used by several countries, in order to analyze and report suspicious financial transactions.

“By implementing this system, the Money Laundering Prevention and Combating Service will have more effective tools to respond to such threats,” said Deputy Prime Minister Doina Nistor at the cabinet meeting.

The goAML system will be available to Moldova under an Agreement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), approved by the government today. The Agreement was signed between the Money Laundering Prevention and Combating Service and UNODC in February 2025.

Through this partnership, Moldova will receive support for the setting and use of the goAML system: from configuration, staff training, to technical maintenance.

The costs for installing and maintaining the system in the first two years will be fully covered by a project supported by UNODC and the government of the United Kingdom.
