Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today had a meeting with First Deputy Minister of Economy Elnur Aliyev and Vice President of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Elshad Nasirov. The meeting took place during an official visit to Azerbaijan by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi.

The discussions focused on developing trade, economic and energy cooperation and identifying joint projects. Thus, the sides examined options for collaboration in the fields of diversifying energy sources, supplying oil products and developing distribution infrastructure, as well as expanding the presence of Azerbaijani operators on the Moldovan market.

“I presented Moldova’s priorities for modernizing the energy sector and creating a predictable framework for investments. I also spoke about the interest in joint projects in the field of energy efficiency, new technological solutions and the development of direct partnerships between companies from the two countries,” said Mihai Popsoi.

The role of the Moldovan‑Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation was also underlined as an important platform for coordinating joint actions and developing bilateral projects. The sixth meeting of the Commission took place in Baku in 2025 and the next session is to be organized in Chisinau.
