
Number of foreign tourists visiting Moldova up by 44 per cent in first half of 2025
The number of foreigners visiting Moldova through tourism agencies has increased by 44.8 per cent in the first half of 2025, totaling 37.1 thousand visitors.
According to the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), most of the tourists were day-trippers or day visitors who arrived for leisure, recreation and entertainment purposes.
Most tourists, or 65 percent, came from Romania, followed by the ones from Italy and Turkey.
The BNS also highlights that, in the first half of this year, there was an increase in both the number of tourist-days and the average duration of the stay in the country for foreign tourists.
Meanwhile, the number of tourists and day-trippers who traveled abroad through tourism agencies and tour operators increased by 3.8 per cent compared to January-June 2024, reaching 146.4 thousand people. The overwhelming majority traveled for leisure, recreation and entertainment purposes.
Moldovan citizens particularly opted for trips to Turkey, Egypt, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece. The average duration of stay for Moldovan tourists abroad during the analyzed period decreased to 6.2 days compared to 6.5 days in January-June 2024.
